Duchesne County is a county in the state of Utah in the United States . In 2010, Duchesne County had 18,607 people. The county seat is Duchesne .

According to the US Census Bureau , Duchesne County covers an area of 8,433 square kilometers. Of this, 46 square kilometers are water surfaces. The largest city is Roosevelt . The county is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Summit County , Daggett County , Uintah County , Carbon County , Utah County, and Wasatch County .
history
The entire land of Duchesne County and West Uintah County was formerly the land of the Ute Indians and part of their reservation. On January 1, 1915, the eastern portion of Wasatch County was separated and became Duchesne County.
The origin of the name for Duchesne is not exactly clear, there are several possibilities:
- A word from the language of the Ute Indians doo-shane (black or dark canyon)
- Fort Duchesne (built by the French)
- Rose du Chesne (founder of the spiritual heart in Utah)
- An early Indian chief in this region
- A French trapper living in the 1830s
- or André Duchesne - a French historian and geologist

According to the 2000 census , Duchesne County had 14,371 people. There were 4,559 households and 3,669 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 90.15% White, 0.15% African American, 5.35% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, and 1.59% other races Groups; 2.50% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 3.53% of the population.
Of the 4,559 households, 46.30% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 67.90% were married couples living together, 8.90% were single mothers. 19.50% were not families. 16.80% are single households and 7.30% have someone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.11 and the average family size was 3.51.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 36.80% residents under 18 years of age, 9.40% between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.70% between 25 and 44 years of age, 19.80% between 45 and 64 years of age 9.40% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 28 years. For every 100 females there were 102.80 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 100.00 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 31,298 , and the median income for a family is $ 35,350. Males had a median income of $ 31,988 versus $ 19,692 for females. The per capita income was $ 12,326. 16.80% of the population and 14.20% of families are below the poverty line. 19.60% of these were under 18 years of age and 12.40% were 65 years of age or older.
