Uintah County is a county in the state of Utah in the United States . The county seat is Vernal , which is also the largest town in the county.

Uintah County covers an area of 11,652 square kilometers, 57 square kilometers of which is water. It is bordered clockwise by the counties: Moffat County, Colorado, Rio Blanco County, Colorado, Garfield County, Colorado, Grand County , Carbon County , Duchesne County, and Daggett County .
history
Uintah County was founded in 1880. It got the name from the tribe of the Ute Indians. These lived in the valleys of the mountains.

Uintah County's population was 25,224 as of the 2000 census . There were 8,187 households and 6,541 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 87.73% White, 0.11% African American, 9.38% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, and 1.05% other races Groups; 1.43% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 3.54% of the population.
Of the 8187 households, 44.50% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 65.70% were married couples living together, 10.60% were single mothers. 20.10% were not families. 17.20% are single households and 7.30% have someone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.05 and the average family size was 3.45 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 34.60% of residents under the age of 18, 10.70% between 18 and 24 years of age, 25.40% between 25 and 44 years of age, 19.30% between 45 and 64 years of age 9.90% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 29 years. For every 100 females there were 99.30 males, for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 95.90 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 34,518 , and the median income for a family is $ 38,877. Males had a median income of $ 33,966 versus $ 21,199 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,571. 14.50% of the population and 12.00% of families are below the poverty line. 17.60% of these were under 18 years of age and 10.40% were 65 years of age or older.
