The San Juan County is a county in the north of the State of New Mexico . The county has 130,044 residents. The county seat is in Aztec .
geography
The county covers an area of 14,344 square kilometers; 63 square kilometers (0.44 percent) of it is water. The county borders the counties in a clockwise direction: Rio Arriba County , Sandoval County , McKinley County , Apache County, Arizona, San Juan County (Utah), Montezuma County (Colorado), La Plata County (Colorado), and Archuleta County (Colorado) .
Waters
The San Juan River is the county's largest river; he gives the county its name. Another river is the Animas River , which merges with the San Juan River at Farmington. The largest lake is Navajo Lake in the north of the county's border with Colorado.

The county has a National Monument and a National Historical Park : the Aztec Ruins National Monument and the Chaco Culture National Historical Park , which is also a World Heritage Site in the United States of America . A total of 37 buildings and sites in the county are registered on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 16, 2018).

The county had a population of 89,908 as of the 2000 census . There were 31,411 households and 23,621 families. The population density was 9 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 65.08% White, 1.71% African American, 16.28% Native American, 0.99% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, and 12.37% other races Groups; 3.47% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 29.40% of the population.
Of the 31,411 households, 38.60% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 57.70% were married couples living together, 12.20% were single mothers. 24.80% were not families. 19.90% were single households and 6.90% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.84 and the average family size was 3.29 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 29.60% of residents under 18 years of age, 7.50% between 18 and 24 years of age, 30.10% between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.20% between 45 and 64 years of age 10.60% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 95.20 males and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 91.70 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 44,949 , and the median income for a family is $ 48,984. Males had a median income of $ 36,791 versus $ 26,565 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,174. 12.10% of the population and 9.00% of families are below the poverty line. 15.60% of these were under 18 years of age and 9.20% were 65 years of age or older.

There are three parishes in San Juan County, all of which have city status. For statistical purposes, the US Census Bureau maintains 28 census-designated places that are subordinate to the county and are not self-governing. Like the Unincorporated Communities, these are unincorporated areas.
