history
According to one story, the Navajo Indians observed a badger digging for a cave or for food in a place on earth that turned out to be a source of drinking water. As a result, they founded a settlement on this site in 1893. The name "Naschitti" is derived from the Navajo language for badger = Nahashchʼidí (English: badger ). An artesian well was soon built at the source . Later the water was pumped with the help of a windmill . Around 1915, a small trading post went into operation. A Protestant church followed around 1922 and a Catholic church in 1930. In 1934 a day school was opened. This school was closed in 1958 and replaced by a public school and a high school, which were also used by the surrounding region and are still in operation.
