Harald Lorscheider

Harald Lorscheider (born December 8, 1939 in Salzwedel ; † October 28, 2005 in Cottbus ) was a German composer of contemporary music .

Lorscheider began studying music at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Weimar in 1954 , which he completed in 1961 with a diploma and state examination. Lorscheider played as a solo timpanist in orchestras in Meiningen and Cottbus until 1984 , after which he began teaching at the Cottbus Conservatory for two years.

From 1986 Lorscheider concentrated on his compositional work as a freelance artist. Between 1992 and 1993 he took over the position of Kapellmeister at the Neue Bühne in Senftenberg and then headed the Guben Music School . From 2000 until his death, Lorscheider worked as a freelancer again.

The composer has been the chairman of the Brandenburg State Association of the German Composers' Association on February 26, 2000. He was a member of the Brandenburg New Music Association and the Sorbian Association of Artists . Lorscheider was a member of the Presidium of the Brandenburg State Music Council.

In his works he used mainly melodies from Sorbian folk music. His compositions include the Sorbian Suite , Variations on an American Spiritual , Hommage à Chopin , The Bremen Town Musicians and the Peasant War Recital .
