Regional Music Council

A regional music council is the umbrella organization for musical life in the respective German federal state . The regional music councils are members of the German Music Council . A regional music council, often set up as an association, is made up of outstanding personalities from public life and various associations who largely shape the musical life of the federal states. The organs of the regional music councils are the general assembly and the honorary board ; the current business is handled by the respective office.

The regional music councils organize national music festivals , ensure the qualification of amateur musicians through appropriate training courses and support the work of young musicians in the music organizations. Its goals are the promotion of amateur music and the continuous and effective planning of projects in the promotion of young talent. For several years now, a special focus has been the aim of enabling music lessons in general schools .

The State Music Council is usually the legal sponsor of the State Youth Orchestra and State Youth Choir of the respective federal state. Furthermore, the ensembles, concerts and rehearsal phases are often organized by the State Music Council.

Political activities

As umbrella organizations at state level for all areas of music , the state music councils want to have a targeted effect on public opinion and influence education and legislation . The social importance of music should be recognized and a corresponding position should be guaranteed. The tasks of the regional music councils therefore include representing the interests of the music associations in educational and cultural-political issues and actively working with laypeople and young talent. In addition, the regional music councils are the contact persons and advisers of the respective regional government . They handle the order management of musical projects of the ministries (ceremonial events, music competitions, etc.) and the sponsorship of the state youth ensembles in cooperation with the respective organizations (e.g. sponsoring associations).
