Catron County is a county in the western state of New Mexico in the United States . The county has 3725 inhabitants and is the largest in the state with an area of ​​17,946 square kilometers. The county seat is reserve .

Rivers in the county are the Tularosa River , the San Francisco River, and the West Fork Gila River . Almost the entire county is in the Gila National Forest .

history

The name goes back to Thomas B. Catron , who in 1912 was the first US Senator to represent the young state of New Mexico in Washington.
