Torrance County is a county in the state of New Mexico in the United States . In 2000 there were 16,383 people living here. The county seat is in Estancia .

Torrance County is almost centrally located in New Mexico and has an area of ​​8,666 square kilometers, of which 3 square kilometers (0.03 percent) are water. It is bordered clockwise by the counties: Santa Fe County , San Miguel County , Guadalupe County , Lincoln County , Socorro County , Valencia County, and Bernalillo County .

As of the 2000 census , the county had a population of 16,911. There were 6,024 households and 4,391 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 73.89% White, 1.66% African American, 2.09% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.13% Pacific Islander, and 17.95% other races Groups; 3.97% were from two or more races.
