Cibola County is a county in the northwest of the US state of New Mexico in the United States . It has 27,213 inhabitants. The county seat is Grants .

The county covers an area of 11,763 square kilometers; 6 square kilometers (0.06 percent) of this is water. The county borders the counties in a clockwise direction: McKinley County , Sandoval County , Bernalillo County , Valencia County , Socorro County , Catron County, and Apache County, Arizona.
history
Cibola County was formed on June 19, 1981 from parts of Valencia County and is the youngest county in New Mexico.
There is a national monument in the county , the El Morro National Monument . Three places have National Historic Landmark status , the San Estevan Del Rey Mission Church , the Hawiku Ruins and the Acoma Pueblo . Six buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 16, 2018).

The county had a population of 25,595 as of the 2000 census . There were 8,327 households and 6,278 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 39.61% White, 0.96% African American, 40.32% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, and 15.44% other races Groups; 3.24% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 33.42% of the population.
Of the 8,327 households, 38.00% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 50.60% were married couples living together, 18.30% were single mothers. 24.60% were not families. 21.10% are single households and 7.30% have someone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.95 and the average family size was 3.41 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 30.70% of residents under the age of 18, 9.60% between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.50% between 25 and 44 years of age, and 21.50% between 45 and 64 years of age 10.70% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 95.50 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 92.20 males.
