The San Juan River [ sæn ˈhwɑn ] is a left tributary of the Colorado River that flows through the US states of Colorado , New Mexico and Utah . It is 644 kilometers long and runs in the southwestern United States . It rises in the San Juan Mountains in southern Colorado and flows into Lake Powell .
The most interesting tourist area is the Goosenecks State Park , where the San Juan River has carved itself deep into the rock in wide loops.
