geography
According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 22.5 km², of which 99% (22.3 km²) is land mass and 1% (0.2 km²) is water.
history
The city was named after the landowner Frederick A. Clark. After the city declared itself independent on September 9, 1908, Frederick was a coal mining town. In this role she attracted many from Italy, France, Greece, Turkey and various Slavic countries.
