Adam McMullen (born June 12, 1872 in Wellsville , Allegany County , New York , †  March 2, 1959 ) was an American politician and from 1925 to 1929 the 22nd  governor of the state of Nebraska .

Early years and political advancement

McMullen attended after elementary school until 1896, the University of Nebraska and then George Washington University , where he made his law exam in 1899. He then opened a law firm in Wymore , Nebraska. McMullen was a member of the Republican Party and was elected to the Nebraska House of Representatives in 1904 and 1906 . He was also mayor of Wymore. In 1916 he made it into the State Senate . In 1920 he applied unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination for gubernatorial elections. Four years later he managed not only the nomination, but also the election victory in the actual gubernatorial elections, where he prevailed with 51:41 percent of the vote against the Democrat John N. Norton .

Governor of Nebraska

McMullen's tenure as governor began January 8, 1925; after re-election in 1926, he was able to serve a total of four years. The economy flourished during his reign. The budget deficit has been reduced and agriculture, particularly irrigation projects, has been promoted. With the ever-increasing volume of traffic, the state's roads and highways have been expanded. McMullen was also a supporter of the Prohibition Act .

After his two terms in office, McMullen remained politically active. In 1932 he became head of the post office in Beatrice . In 1928 and 1932 he was a delegate to the respective Republican National Conventions , at which Herbert Hoover was nominated as a presidential candidate in both cases . In 1940 he applied unsuccessfully for a seat in the US Senate . He already failed in the primaries. Adam McMullen died in early March 1959 and was buried in Wymore. He was married to Cora Greenwood.
