Ezra Savage

Ezra Perin Savage (born April 3, 1842 in Connersville , Fayette County , Indiana , †  January 8, 1920 in Tacoma , Washington ) was an American politician and between 1901 and 1903 the 13th governor of the state of Nebraska .

Early years and political advancement

Ezra Savage attended Davenport High School in Iowa and Iowa College . After studying law, he was admitted to the bar in 1878. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Nebraska. In 1877, Savage was elected Mayor of South Omaha , which was then a separate town and later became a suburb of Omaha . In 1883 he was elected to the Nebraska House of Representatives ; In 1888 he was a councilor in South Omaha. In 1900 he was elected as a candidate for the Republican Party for Lieutenant Governor of Nebraska.

Arkansas Governor

After the incumbent governor Charles Henry Dietrich resigned after almost four months in office on May 1, 1901 to move to the US Senate , Savage had to take over the governor's post as its deputy and end the term of office that had begun. He was in office between May 1, 1901 and January 8, 1903. His term of office passed without any significant highlights. However, Savage's pardon of a convicted former Nebraska Treasury Secretary sparked protests that led to his renouncement of the 1902 gubernatorial election. After the end of his tenure, Savage retired from politics. He later moved to Tacoma, Washington state, where he got into the lumber business. There he died and was buried. Savage was married three times and had a total of six children.
