Edward A. Gilbert

Edward Addison Gilbert (born July 6, 1854 in Illinois ) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1901 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Nebraska .

The sources on Edward Gilbert are very poor. What is certain is that he had lived in York County , Nebraska, since 1884 . Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party at the time . In 1889 he was elected to the state legislature. In 1896 he left the Republicans and initially became a member of a split from this party, the Silver Republicans . Then he joined the populist party .

In 1898, Gilbert was elected lieutenant governor of Nebraska alongside William A. Poynter as a joint candidate for the Democrats , the Populists and the Silver Republicans . He held this office between 1899 and 1901. He was Deputy Governor and formal chairman of the State Senate. In 1900 and 1902 he unsuccessfully sought his re-election or his return to this office. After that his track is lost.
