Gerald T. Whelan

Gerald T. Whelan (born May 14, 1925 in Hastings , Nebraska , †  January 2, 1993 ) was an American politician . Between 1975 and 1979 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Nebraska.

Career

Gerald Whelan initially studied at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln . After studying law at Creighton University and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession in Hastings. During World War II he served in the United States Navy . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In 1960 he ran unsuccessfully for the US House of Representatives .

In 1974 Whelan was elected Lieutenant Governor of Nebraska alongside J. James Exon . He held this office between 1975 and 1979. He was Deputy Governor and formal chairman of the Nebraska Legislature . In 1978, his application for governor of Nevada was unsuccessful. He died on January 2, 1993.
