Donald McGinley

Donald Francis McGinley (born June 30, 1920 in Keith County , Nebraska , † July 6, 2005 in Lincoln , Nebraska) was an American politician . Between 1959 and 1961 he represented the fourth constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Donald McGinley attended Ogallala High School until 1938 and then the University of Notre Dame in Indiana until 1942 . He then interrupted his training to participate as a soldier in the Air Corps of the US Army in World War II . In 1949 he finished his studies at Georgetown University in Washington . After his admission to the bar, he began to work in his new profession in 1950 in Ogallala . Between 1951 and 1955 he was a district attorney in Arthur County . He became a member of the Democratic Party and served in the Nebraska Legislature from 1955 to 1959 .

In 1958 he was elected to the US House of Representatives, where he replaced Republican Arthur L. Miller on January 3, 1959 . However, after a defeat in the 1960 elections until January 3, 1961, he was only able to serve one term in Congress . Between 1963 and 1964 he was again a member of the Nebraska Parliament. In 1964 and 1968 he took part as a delegate at the respective Democratic National Conventions .

From 1976 to 1980 McGinley was a judge at a court in Lincoln, which mainly dealt with cases in the field of business and industry. He held his last political office between 1983 and 1987 as Lieutenant Governor of Nebraska. After that, he retired. Donald McGinley died on July 6, 2005 in Lincoln, capital of Nebraska.
