Jeffrey Lane "Jeff" Fortenberry (born December 27, 1960 in Baton Rouge , Louisiana ) is an American politician . Since 2005 he has represented the first constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jeff Fortenberry attended Louisiana State University after elementary school until 1982 , where he studied economics. He then studied politics until 1986 at Georgetown University in Washington and finally theology at Franciscan University in Steubenville ( Ohio ) .

Politically, he is a member of the Republican Party . From 1997 to 2001 he was a member of the Lincoln City Council in Nebraska, where he had since moved. In 2004 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in the first constituency of Nebraska, where he has represented his state since January 3, 2005. In the elections itself, he had to prevail within his party against six competitors, before he then won the actual election against the Democrat Matt Connealy with an 11% advantage . After six re-elections so far, including the one in 2016, he can continue to exercise his mandate today. Its latest legislative term runs until January 3, 2019.

Fortenberry is considered conservative and belongs to the Republican Study Committee within his faction . Among other things, he advocates a ban on online poker and other games of chance on the Internet. He is or was a member of the Agriculture Committee, the Committee on the Reform of the Government Structure and the Foreign Affairs Committee as well as some sub-committees.

Jeff Fortenberry is married to Celeste Gregory, with whom he has five children. He still lives in Lincoln privately.
