Augustin Reed Humphrey

Augustin Reed Humphrey (born February 18, 1859 in Madison , Indiana , † December 10, 1937 in Fort Collins , Colorado ) was an American politician . Between 1922 and 1923 he represented the sixth constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Augustin Humphrey moved to Drakesville , Davis County , Iowa in 1864 . There he attended public schools and then until 1881 the State Normal School in Bloomfield . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Iowa in Iowa City and his admission to the bar in 1882, Humphrey began working in his new profession in Broken Bow (Nebraska).

Augustin Humphrey became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1887 and 1936 he attended all regional party conventions in Nebraska. In his new home, Humphrey was also active in agriculture and above all in cattle breeding. Between 1891 and 1895 he was the commissioner of the state government of Nebraska for the public real estate; from 1898 to 1914 he headed the Broken Bow Education Committee. There he was also a judge at the probate court from 1906 to 1910 and mayor from 1916 to 1917. In 1920 he moved to his ranch on the South Loop River.

After the death of Congressman Moses P. Kinkaid , Humphrey was elected his successor in Congress in a by- election. There he ended Kinkaid's tenure between November 7, 1922 and March 3, 1923. In the regular congressional elections of 1922, he decided not to run again. After his brief tenure in Congress ended, Humphrey returned to practice as a lawyer in Broken Bow. He died while visiting Colorado.
