John A. McShane

John Albert McShane (born August 25, 1850 in New Lexington , Perry County , Ohio , † November 10, 1923 in Omaha , Nebraska ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ). Between 1887 and 1889 he represented the first constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John McShane attended public schools in his home country. He moved to the Wyoming Territory in 1871 and to Omaha, Nebraska in 1874. In both places he dealt with cattle breeding. In Omaha he also became director of the First National Bank of Omaha . Between 1880 and 1882 he was a member of the Nebraska House of Representatives , and from 1882 to 1886 he was a member of the State Senate .

In the congressional elections of 1886 he was elected his party's first candidate ever for the first constituency of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives. There he replaced Archibald J. Weaver on March 4, 1887 . McShane served only one term in Congress until March 3, 1889 . After his time in Washington ended , he returned to Omaha, where he went back to his private business. He died there on November 10, 1923.
