Adrian M. Smith (born December 19, 1970 in Scottsbluff , Nebraska ) is an American politician ( Republican Party ). Since 2007 he has represented the third constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Adrian Smith attended Gering High School until 1989 and then studied at Liberty University in Lynchburg ( Virginia ). In 1993 he finished his studies with a degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln . He then worked as a private businessman and as a teacher. Between 1994 and 1998 he served on Gering City Council and between 1999 and 2007 he was a member of the Nebraska Legislature . There he was chairman of several committees.

In 2006, Smith was elected to the US House of Representatives with 55% of the vote in the third district of Nebraska. There he took over from Tom Osborne on January 3, 2007 . Two years later he was even confirmed with 77% of the vote against the Democrat Jay Stoddard. He was confirmed in office in the 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016 elections. Smith is considered very conservative. He has since been a member of the Agriculture Committee, the Committee on the Land's Natural Resources, and the Technology and Science Committee . He later served on the Committee on Ways and Means . Its latest legislative term runs until January 3, 2019.
