Frank Welch

Frank Welch (born February 10, 1835 in Charlestown , Massachusetts , † September 4, 1878 in Neligh , Nebraska ) was an American politician . Between 1877 and 1878 he represented the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Frank Welch graduated from Boston High School and trained as a civil engineer. In 1857 he moved to the Nebraska Territory , where he settled in Decatur , Burt County . There he worked in trade, but also as a postman.

Welch joined the Republican Party . In 1864 he was a member of the Territorial Government Council and between 1865 and 1866 he was a member of the Territorial House of Representatives, where he was its President in 1865. From 1871 to 1876 he was a registrar with the Land Authority at West Point .

In 1876 Frank Welch was elected to the US House of Representatives, where he succeeded Lorenzo Crounse on March 4, 1877 . His two-year term would actually have run until March 3, 1879. Welch died on September 4, 1878. His seat then went to Thomas Jefferson Majors after the by-election that had become necessary .
