John Joseph Cavanaugh

John Joseph Cavanaugh III (born August 1, 1945 in Omaha , Nebraska ) is an American politician . Between 1977 and 1981 he represented the second constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Cavanaugh attended the Creighton Prepatory School in Omaha until 1963 and then until 1967 the Regis College in Denver . After studying law at Creighton University , he began working as a lawyer in Omaha in 1972. He had previously served in the US Army between 1968 and 1970 .

Cavanaugh became a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1973 and 1977 he was a member of the Nebraska Legislature . In the congressional election of 1976 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in the second district of Nebraska, where he replaced John Y. McCollister on January 3, 1977 . After re-election in 1978, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1981 .

In 1980 he decided not to run again. Since then he has been working as a lawyer in Omaha again. In 1980, 2000 and 2004 he was a delegate to the respective Democratic National Conventions . John Cavanaugh has eight grown children.
