Roy H. Thorpe

Roy Henry Thorpe (born December 13, 1874 in Greensburg , Decatur County , Indiana , † September 19, 1951 in Lincoln , Nebraska ) was an American politician . Between 1922 and 1923 he represented the first constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Roy Thorpe attended the public schools in his home country and Greensburg High School . He then studied pharmacy, medicine and law. Roy Thorpe also served as a preacher. Between 1897 and 1904 he was a trader in Du Quoin ( Illinois ), from 1905 to 1919 he was also a trader in Shenandoah ( Iowa ).

Politically, Thorpe was a member of the Republican Party . From 1917 to 1918, during World War I , he served on an intelligence mission for the state of Iowa. In 1919 he moved to Lincoln, Nebraska. In his new home, too, he was employed in trading.

After the resignation of Congressman C. Frank Reavis , Thorpe was elected as his successor in the US House of Representatives in the new elections due in the first district of Nebraska. There he took up his new mandate on November 7, 1922. He ended his predecessor's term of office, which ran until March 3, 1923. In 1922 he had refrained from running again in the regular congressional elections. Therefore, he could only spend just under four months in Congress .

In 1924, Thorpe ran again for Congress. This candidacy was unsuccessful. Then he went about his business, which later also included the insurance industry.
