Edmund Howard Hinshaw (born December 8, 1860 in Greensboro , Henry County , Indiana , † June 15, 1932 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American politician . Between 1903 and 1911 he represented the fourth constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edmund Hinshaw attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1885 the Butler College in Indianapolis . In 1887 he moved to Fairbury , Nebraska. There he was superintendent of the public schools in 1887 and 1888 . At the same time he studied law. After being admitted to the bar in 1888, he began his new profession in Fairbury.

Between 1889 and 1890 Edmund Hinshaw was legal representative for the city of Fairbury and from 1895 to 1899 he was District Attorney in Jefferson County . Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 1898 he ran unsuccessfully for the US House of Representatives, two years later a candidacy for the US Senate was equally unsuccessful. In 1902 Hinshaw was elected in the fourth district of Nebraska as a member of Congress , where he replaced William Ledyard Stark on March 4, 1903 . After he was confirmed in his mandate in the following three congressional elections, he was able to complete a total of four terms in Congress in Washington by March 3, 1911 . He did not stand for election in 1910.

After the end of his time in Congress, Hinshaw initially worked again as a lawyer in Fairbury. In 1912 he moved to Los Angeles, where he also practiced as a lawyer. He also got into the cinema business there by participating in a cinema chain. He died in his new home in June 1932 and was buried in Glendale . He was the cousin of Edwin B. Brooks , who represented the State of Illinois in the US House of Representatives between 1919 and 1922 .
