Archibald J. Weaver

Archibald Jerard Weaver (born April 15, 1843 in Dundaff , Susquehanna County , Pennsylvania , † April 18, 1887 in Falls City , Nebraska ) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1887 he represented the first constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Archibald Weaver attended public schools in his home country and then Wyoming Seminary in Kingston . From 1864 to 1867 he was a member of the teaching staff there. After studying law at Harvard University Law School , he was admitted to the bar in 1869. In the same year he moved to Falls City, Nebraska, where he practiced his new profession.

Weaver joined the Republican Party . In 1871 and 1875 he was a member of conventions revising the Nebraska State Constitution. In 1872 he became a district attorney in the first judicial district of that state. In 1875 he became a district judge in the same area. He held this office until 1883.

In 1882 Weaver was elected to the US House of Representatives, where he succeeded Edward K. Valentine on March 4, 1883 , who moved to the third constituency. After re-election in 1884, Weaver was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1887 . In 1886 he declined to run for the House of Representatives again; instead, he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the US Senate . After leaving Congress, Archibald Weaver worked for a short time as a lawyer. But he died on April 18, 1887, only six weeks after the end of his term in Congress.
