David T. Martin

David Thomas Martin (born July 9, 1907 in Kearney , Nebraska , † May 15, 1997 ibid) was an American politician . Between 1963 and 1974 he represented the third constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

David Martin attended public schools in his home country and then Dartmouth College . After his training he worked in the wood business and later in politics. Martin was a member of the Republican Party , whose Republican National Conventions he attended in 1944 and 1948 as a delegate.

Between 1949 and 1954 he was chairman of his party in Nebraska and from 1952 to 1954 he was a member of the Republican National Committee . In 1954 he ran unsuccessfully in his party's primary election for a seat in the US Senate . In 1960 Martin was elected to the US House of Representatives in the third district of Nebraska, where Ralph F. Beermann replaced on January 3, 1961 . After he won the following six congressional elections, he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until his resignation on December 31, 1974. He was a member of the House Rules Committee and the Education and Working Committee. He did not stand for election in 1974. His resignation came just three days before the end of the legislative period.

After serving in Congress, David Martin served on the board of directors of the Nebraska State College System . In 1980 he led the then unsuccessful presidential election campaign for George Bush . Martin died on May 15, 1997 at the age of 89.
