Ernest M. Pollard

Ernest Mark Pollard (born April 15, 1869 in Nehawka , Cass County , Nebraska , † September 24, 1939 in Lincoln , Nebraska) was an American politician . Between 1905 and 1909 he represented the first constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Ernest Pollard attended the District School in Nehawka and then until 1893 the Nebraska State University . He then worked in agriculture in the area around his native Nehawka.

Pollard became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1896 and 1899 he was an MP in the Nebraska House of Representatives . After the resignation of Congressman Elmer Jacob Burkett , Ernest Pollard was elected to the US House of Representatives in the 1905 by-election. After he was re-elected in 1906, he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress between July 18, 1905 and March 3, 1909 . In the elections of 1908 he was defeated by the Democrat John A. Maguire .

In 1912, Pollard was a delegate to the Republican National Convention . In 1920 and 1921 he was a delegate to a meeting to revise the state constitution of Nebraska. In the meantime he continued to work in agriculture. In 1929, Pollard moved to Lincoln, the capital of the state of Nebraska. From that year until 1931 he was Minister of Labor and Welfare in the government under Governor Arthur Weaver . After that, he retired. Ernest Pollard died on September 24, 1939 and was buried in his native Nehawka.
