Robert Dinsmore Harrison

Robert Dinsmore Harrison (born January 26, 1897 in Panama , Lancaster County , Nebraska , † June 11, 1977 in Norfolk , Nebraska) was an American politician . Between 1951 and 1959 he represented the third constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Harrison attended the public schools in his home country and graduated from Peru State Teachers College in 1926 . He then studied until 1928 at the University of California and until 1934 at the University of Nebraska . Even before his studies, he took part in the First World War as a soldier in the US Army . His studies were also interrupted by his work in school. Between 1926 and 1929 he was in charge of the schools in Bradshaw and then until 1937 in De Witt , also in Nebraska. Between 1942 and 1951 he was a member of the Norfolk School Board. In addition to his school activities, Robert Harrison also ran his own oil company in Norfolk and a farm in Cedar County . He was also a member of the Nebraska Governor's Advisory Board , which dealt with the state's highways.

Harrison was a member of the Republican Party . After the death of Congressman Karl Stefan , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in the 1951 by-election. After he also won the three following regular congressional elections, he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress between December 4, 1951 and January 3, 1959. In the elections of 1958 he was defeated by the Democrat Lawrence Brock .

After his tenure in Congress was over, Harrison was an advisor to the board of directors of the Commodity Credit Corporation . Between 1959 and 1960 he also worked for the US Department of Agriculture. He was then regional director of the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation for Nebraska from 1961 to 1962 . In 1962, he ran unsuccessfully to return to Congress. He then retired to Norfolk. He died there in 1977.
