James P. Latta

James Polk Latta (born October 31, 1844 in Ashland , Ohio , † September 11, 1911 in Rochester , Minnesota ) was an American politician . Between 1909 and 1911 he represented the third constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1846, James Latta moved with his parents to Jackson County , Iowa . There he attended public schools. He also worked in agriculture. In 1863 he moved to the Nebraska Territory , where he became a teacher in Tekamah . In addition, he continued to deal with agriculture and especially with livestock. From 1887 he was also in the banking business. In 1890 he was the founder of the First National Bank of Tekamah , of which he would remain president until his death. Politically, Latta became a member of the Democratic Party . He was elected to the Nebraska House of Representatives in 1887 and to the State Senate in 1907 .

In 1908 Latta was elected to the US House of Representatives in the third district of Nebraska, where he replaced Republican John Frank Boyd on March 4, 1909 . In the elections of 1910 he was confirmed by the voters. His second term in Congress would have run until March 3, 1913. Latta died in September 1911. After the due by-election, his seat in the House of Representatives went to Dan V. Stephens .
