Charles Otto Lobeck (born April 6, 1852 in Andover , Henry County , Illinois , † January 30, 1920 in Omaha , Nebraska ) was an American politician . Between 1911 and 1919 he represented the second constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Lobeck attended the public schools in Geneseo (Illinois), the German Wallace College in Berea ( Ohio ) and the Dyhrenfurth Commercial College in Chicago . In 1869 he moved to Dayton ( Iowa ), where he was employed in a store. Between 1875 and 1892 Lobeck was a traveling salesman in Nebraska and Iowa. From 1892 to 1895 he worked in Omaha in the hardware industry.

Politically, Charles Lobeck was initially a member of the Republican Party . In 1892 he was elected to the Nebraska Senate. In 1896 he switched to the Democratic Party . From 1897 to 1903 he was a member of the Omaha City Council. At the same time he entered the real estate and insurance business. From 1903 to 1911 he was employed by the city of Omaha.

In 1910 Lobeck was elected to the US House of Representatives in the second district of Nebraska, where he succeeded Gilbert Monell Hitchcock on March 4, 1911 . After he was confirmed in office in the elections of 1912, 1914 and 1916, he was able to complete a total of four legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1919 . From 1913 he was chairman of the Ministry of Finance's Expenditure Monitoring Committee. In the 1918 election, Lobeck was defeated by Republican Albert W. Jefferis .

After his time in Congress was over, Lobeck returned to real estate and insurance. He died on January 30, 1920.
