Don Bacon

Donald J. "Don" Bacon (born August 16, 1963 in Chicago Heights , Cook County , Illinois ) is an American general and politician of the Republican Party . He has represented the state of Nebraska in the United States House of Representatives since 2017 .

Family, education and work

Don Bacon studied political science and government administration at Northern Illinois University . From 1985 he was active in the United States Air Force and completed an officer training. During his time in the Air Force, he studied administration and management at the University of Phoenix between 1994 and 1996 . In 1997 and 1998 he graduated from Air Command and Staff College , from 2003 to 2004 he studied at National War College , where he graduated with a Masters in National Strategy .

In the Air Force he went through all officer ranks up to brigadier general. One of his military stations was Ramstein Air Base in Germany, where as Installation Commander he was responsible for the barracks management. In 2014 he retired from active military service. He then gave occasional lectures at Bellevue University .

Bacon has four children with his wife, Angie. You live in Papillion on the eastern edge of Nebraska.

Political career

Bacon became a member of Congressman Jeff Fortenberry's staff . In the 2016 election , Bacon was elected to the US House of Representatives in Nebraska’s second congressional electoral district in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Democrat Brad Ashford , whom he defeated in the election, on January 3, 2017 .

In the 2018 election , Bacon was considered endangered due to the structural advantages of the Democrats as an opposition party in this mid-term election . After his moderate predecessor, Brad Ashford, was defeated in the Democratic primary by left-wing activist Kara Eastman , according to the polls he was considered a favorite for re-election, which he ultimately won.
