Dan V. Stephens

Dan Voorhees Stephens (born November 4, 1868 in Bloomington , Indiana , † January 13, 1939 in Fremont , Nebraska ) was an American politician . Between 1911 and 1919 he represented the third constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Dan Stephens attended public schools in his home country and then Valparaiso College . Since 1887 he was based in Fremont, where he taught as a teacher and studied law. Between 1890 and 1894 he was Superintendent of Schools in Dodge County and oversaw the schools in that district. At that time he wrote a few books himself on the subject of education. In addition to these activities, Stephens was also active in other areas. He was involved in agriculture, publishing, banking, and manufacturing. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party , whose Democratic National Conventions he attended as a delegate in 1904, 1908, 1920, 1924 and 1932.

After the death of Congressman James P. Latta , Dan Stephens won the necessary by-election to the US House of Representatives. Since he also won the following three regular congressional elections, he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress between November 7, 1911 and March 3, 1919. In 1918, however, he failed at the Republican Robert E. Evans . After his tenure in Congress, Stephens resumed his previous business activities in Nebraska. From 1923 to 1926 he was a member of the school board of this state.
