Oren S. Copeland

Oren Sturman Copeland (born March 16, 1887 in Huron , Beadle County , South Dakota , † April 10, 1958 in Lincoln , Nebraska ) was an American politician . Between 1941 and 1943 he represented the first constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Oren Copeland was born on a farm in South Dakota. In 1891 he moved to Pender , Nebraska with his parents . There he attended public schools. Between 1904 and 1907 he studied at the University of Nebraska . From 1910 Copeland was active in Lincoln in the newspaper business, since 1913 he operated a gas station.

Copeland was a member of the Republican Party and a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1912. He held his first political position between 1935 and 1937 as an employee of the Lincoln City Public Security Bureau. He was then mayor of this city between 1937 and 1940. In the congressional elections of 1940 he was elected to the US House of Representatives, where he replaced the non-re-running John Hyde Sweet on January 3, 1941 . Since Copeland was no longer nominated by his party in 1942, he could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1943 .

After his tenure in Congress, Copeland returned to the gas station business. Politically, he no longer appeared. Oren Copeland died in April 1958 and was buried in Lincoln.
