history

Erwin FW Hoffmann and his wife founded the company in Chemnitz in 1930 . Since the center of the hosiery industry at that time was located there, they initially sent stockings. The outbreak of war in 1939 worsened the economic situation, so that the MONA company bridged the time with patching and repair work for the military. In 1948 Hoffmann and his wife and four children secretly went to West Germany via Berlin. In Karlsruhe he started all over again, using the customer file as the basis. Due to the lack of women's stockings, which were previously only made in Saxony, he set up a hosiery and knitwear factory in Rußheim . In 1960 they moved into their own Mona high-rise at Augartenstrasse 1 in Karlsruhe, to which an extension was added in 1966.

In 1960, the range was expanded to include women's and men's clothing and in 1961 the now 60-year-old founded the subsidiary Monette Versand GmbH, which specialized in table linen, bed linen and other home textiles. In the early 1970s, stocking production in Rußheim was stopped because the new, finer stockings could no longer be made on the stocking machines. In 1985 Mona's own clothing production facility in Karlsruhe was closed, as was the Monette company. From this point on, the goods were obtained from German manufacturers. In 1989 Mrs. Eva Hofmann and her four children withdrew from the management and on June 1, 1989 the new shareholders took over.

In 1990 branches and branches of Mona were founded in Switzerland and Austria. The Swiss and Austrian customers were supplied from Karlsruhe. Customer service was on site, logistics, IT, purchasing and marketing were controlled from Karlsruhe. In 1994 a branch was opened in Holland. In 1995 the former UNIKA building was completely rebuilt so that the fashion store, administration and logistics could move.

A branch was established in Sweden in the 2004 financial year; In the same year Mona went "online". The company is now also represented in Belgium and France. The online magazine has been around since 2015.
