Willis G. Sears

Willis Gratz Sears (born August 16, 1860 in Willoughby , Lake County , Ohio , † June 1, 1949 in Omaha , Nebraska ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ). Between 1923 and 1931 he represented the second constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Willis Sears attended public schools in his home country. In 1879 he moved to Nebraska. After studying law at the University of Kansas and being admitted to the bar in 1884, he began working in his new profession in Tekamah , Burt County . He was also a district attorney in Burt County between 1895 and 1901. From 1901 to 1904 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Nebraska ; in 1901 he was also President of the House. He then served as a judge in the fourth legal district of Nebraska until 1923.

In 1922 Willis Sears was elected to the US House of Representatives in the second constituency of Nebraska, where he replaced Albert W. Jefferis on March 4, 1923 . After he was confirmed in office in the following elections up to and including 1928, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1931 . There he was temporarily chairman of the committee that dealt with the expenses of the Ministry of Justice, as well as a member of the electoral committee. For the elections in 1930 he was no longer nominated by his party.

After his tenure in Congress in Washington, DC , Sears returned to practice as a lawyer. From 1932 to 1948 he was again a judge in the fourth district. He died on June 1, 1949 and was buried in Tekamah.
