Omer Madison Kem (born November 13, 1855 in Hagerstown , Wayne County , Indiana , †  February 13, 1942 in Cottage Grove , Oregon ) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1893 he represented the third and from 1893 to 1897 the sixth constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Omer Kem attended public schools in his home country. In 1882 he moved to Custer County , Nebraska, where he settled as a farmer. Politically, he joined the populist party that emerged from the farmers' movement . Between 1890 and 1891 he was a chamberlain in Custer County.

In 1890 , Kem was elected to the US House of Representatives in the third district of Nebraska, where he succeeded George Dorsey on March 4, 1891 . After he was confirmed in office in the following elections, he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until March 3, 1897. Since the elections of 1892 he was a member of the newly created sixth electoral district. In 1896 he no longer stood for election.

After his tenure in Congress ended, Omer Kem moved to nearby Montrose , Colorado . There he worked in fruit growing and cattle breeding. In 1907 he was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives. Soon after, he moved to Cottage Grove, Oregon, where he worked in the energy sector until 1922. He was particularly interested in the power supply and power plants. From 1922 he lived in retirement.
