Cottage Grove is a town in Lane County in the US state of Oregon . According to the 2000 census , it had a population of 8,445 in an area of 8.6 km². The population density is 987 per km².
Demographics
Cottage Grove's population of 8,445 people, found in the 2000 census, lived in 3,264 households; including 2,183 families. The population density was 988 per km ². 3,430 residential units were recorded in the village. Among the population were 92.8% White, 0.2% African American, 1.2% American Indian, 0.9% Asian, and 1.6% from other races; 3.2% said they belonged to several ethnic groups.
33.0% of the 3,264 households had children under the age of 18; 49.4% were married couples living together. 28.1% of the households were single households. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.05.
The population was distributed among 27.4% under 18 years, 8.5% from 18 to 24 years, 26.4% from 25 to 44 years, 21.7% from 45 to 64 years and 16.0% from 65 years or older. The median age was 37 years.
