The Chambers Bridge is a historic railroad bridge and is located in Lane County in the US state of Oregon , in the United States . It is located off South River Road , near the village of Cottage Grove . The specialty of this bridge is that it is covered and as such is the last of its kind in the state of Oregon.

history

The bridge was in 1925 by the Oregon, Pacific and Eastern Railway built, timber transportation at that as part of a branch of the general rail network by rail sawmill Frank Chambers Mill in Cottage Grove permit. The useful life of the Chambers Bridge was short as the sawmill was completely destroyed by a fire in 1943. Over the years, the bridge has been ravaged by arsonists several times , although the bridge itself was not affected, but the wooden parts of the structure were partially damaged. From 1993 to 1995 the bridge was inspected under the Covered Bridge Program . Its wingspan is 23.8 meters and crosses the Coast Fork Willamette River .

The truss bridge was added to the registry on November 29, 1979 by the National Register of Historic Places with number 79002081.

At the beginning of 2010 it was demolished for renovation . In the summer of 2011 the bridge was rebuilt according to the original plans. It reopened on December 3, 2011.
