Fred Gustus Johnson

Fred Gustus Johnson (born October 16, 1876 in Dorchester , Saline County , Nebraska , † April 30, 1951 in Hastings , Nebraska) was an American politician . Between 1929 and 1931 he represented the fifth constituency of the state of Nebraska in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Fred Johnson attended the public schools in his home country and graduated from Dorchester High School in 1893 . After studying law at the University of Nebraska and his admission to the bar in 1903, he began working in his new profession in Dorchester. He also worked there in agriculture. In 1909 Johnson moved to Oxford and in 1911 to Hastings, Nebraska, where he also worked as a lawyer.

Politically, Johnson became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1907 and 1909 and again from 1917 to 1919 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Nebraska ; from 1919 to 1920 he was also a member of the State Senate . After that he was vice governor of his state in 1923 and 1924 . Between 1900 and 1938 he was a delegate at all Republican congresses in Nebraska.

In 1928, Fred Johnson was elected to the US House of Representatives in the fifth district of Nebraska. There he replaced Ashton Shallenberger on March 4, 1929 . Since he lost to Shallenberger in the next election, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1931 . In 1932 another candidacy for the House of Representatives failed.

After his tenure in Congress, Johnson returned to practice as a lawyer. He was also involved in the real estate market. Between 1934 and 1938 he ran a farming business in Hastings. From 1941 to 1943 he lived in Charleston ( Mississippi ), where he also ran a farm. From 1945 until his death, Johnson was a judge in Adams County , Nebraska.
