Rick Sheehy (2009)

Rick Sheehy (born October 3, 1959 in Hastings , Nebraska ) is an American politician . Between 2005 and 2013 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Nebraska.

Career

Rick Sheehy graduated from St. Cecilia High School in his hometown of Hastings and then studied at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln . He later trained as a medical paramedic at Central Community College . For more than 20 years he worked for the local rescue service Rural Metro . There he rose to the position of manager of the company. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party until 2003 . Then he switched to the Republicans . Between 1994 and 2000 he was a member of Hastings City Council, of which he had been President since 1996. He then served as mayor there from 2001 to 2005.

After the resignation of Governor Mike Johanns in 2005, Lieutenant Governor Dave Heineman was his successor in the highest office in Nebraska. Heineman appointed Rick Sheehy for the post of lieutenant governor that has now become vacant. In 2006 and 2010 both politicians were confirmed in their respective offices. Sheeny held his new office between 2005 and his resignation in 2013, serving as Vice Governor and formally chairing the Nebraska Legislature . He was also director of Nebraska's Homeland Security and a member of the Nebraska Rural Health Association . Sheehy was planning to run for governor in 2014.

On February 2, 2013, Governor Heineman called a press conference at which he announced Sheehy's resignation as Lieutenant Governor. An official justification for this step was not given. The governor only spoke of abuse of trust. Sheehy's late-night phone calls at state expense to four different women were reported in the press for years. He was married between 1983 and 2012. The marriage, which has since been divorced, had two children.
