William E. Nichol

William Edison Nichol (born March 12, 1918 in Windsor , Colorado , †  November 29, 2006 in Scottsbluff , Nebraska ) was an American politician . Between 1987 and 1991 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Nebraska.

Career

Between 1919 and 1926, William Nichol lived in South Dakota , where his father worked as a farmer. Then he came to Nebraska, where he attended Scottsbluff public schools. In 1940 he graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University . In the following years he worked on his father's farm in the Mitchell Valley, Nebraska. Then he started working in the insurance industry at Scottsbluff. He also became the owner of the Scottsbluff Credit Bureau . In the meantime, he also published Business Farmer magazine. Politically, Nichol joined the Republican Party . He was on the Scottsbluff City Council for eight years. He was mayor there for two years. He also served on the Scotts Bluff County county council for eight years . In the meantime he was its chairman. In 1974 he was elected to the Nebraska Legislature , which he later chaired. He was a member of the state parliament for a total of twelve years. He headed the judicial committee there for eight years.

In 1986 Nichol was elected Lieutenant Governor of Nebraska alongside Kay Orr . He held this office between 1987 and 1991. He was Deputy Governor and formal chairman of the Nebraska Legislature. In 1991 he renounced another candidacy. Nichol was also a member of several organizations and associations in his homeland. He died on November 29, 2006 in Scottsbluff.
