Theodore Metcalfe
Theodore W. Metcalfe (born August 16, 1894 in Omaha , Nebraska , † February 17, 1973 ) was an American politician . Between 1931 and 1933 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Nebraska.
Career
Nothing is known about Theodore Metcalfe's youth and schooling. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 1930 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Nebraska alongside Charles W. Bryan . He held this office between 1931 and 1933. He was Deputy Governor and formal chairman of the State Senate . When he stood in for the governor for some time in 1931, he started the not-for-profit charity The Great Navy of Nebraska . Metcalfe made about 20 to 25 of his friends admirals of this organization, which despite its name has nothing to do with a fleet.
In 1940 Metcalfe ran unsuccessfully for the United States House of Representatives ; in 1952 and 1960 he took part as a delegate at the respective Republican National Conventions . He died on February 17, 1973.
