Charles J. Warner

Charles Joseph Warner (born March 29, 1875 in Lancaster County , Nebraska , †  September 24, 1955 in Lincoln , Nebraska) was an American politician . Between 1949 and 1955 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Nebraska.

Career

Charles Warner attended the University of Nebraska until 1899 . He then studied law at George Washington University in Washington, DC . Later, however, he worked mainly as a farmer and rancher. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1901 and 1907 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Nebraska ; from 1919 to 1937 he was a member of the State Senate. In 1937 the two chambers of the state legislature were merged into one House of Representatives, which is still called the Nebraska Legislature to this day . From 1937 to 1939 Warner was a member and first president of this new parliament. Warner made three unsuccessful attempts to be elected governor of his state. In 1944 and 1952 he took part as a delegate at the respective Republican National Conventions .

In 1948, Warner was elected Lieutenant Governor of Nebraska alongside Val Peterson . He held this office after three re-elections between 1949 and his death on September 24, 1955. He was Deputy Governor and formal chairman of the Nebraska Legislature. Since 1953 he served under the new Governor Robert B. Crosby and since January 1955 under his successor Victor Emanuel Anderson .
