Edmund C. Carns

Edmund Crawford Carns (born February 19, 1844 in Butler County , Pennsylvania , †  March 12, 1895 ) was an American politician . Between 1879 and 1883 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Nebraska .

Career

Edmund Carns attended the public schools in his home country. In 1858 he moved with his parents to Mercer County , Illinois , where he worked in agriculture until 1864. Then he went to Minnesota for a short time and then to California . In the spring of 1873 he settled in Seward, Nebraska, where he was active in the grain trade. In the meantime he was also a real estate agent and cattle dealer.

Politically, Carns joined the Republican Party . In 1875 he took part as a delegate to a constitutional convention of the state of Nebraska; In 1876 he became a member of the then State Senate. In 1937, after merging with the House of Representatives , this body was incorporated into the Nebraska Legislature . In 1878 Carns was elected Lieutenant Governor of Nebraska alongside Albinus Nance . He held this office after re-election between 1879 and 1883. He was deputy governor and formal chairman of the state senate. After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was no longer politically active. He died on March 12, 1895.
