Filip Novák (born May 7, 1982 in České Budějovice , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC České Budějovice from the 1st division again since January 2017 .
Career
Filip Novák began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth club of HC České Budějovice , where he was active until 1999. The defender then moved to the Regina Pats in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League for three years . During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2000 in the second round as a total of 64th player by the New York Rangers , for which he never played. Instead, he was from 2002 to 2005 for the San Antonio Rampage in the American Hockey League on the ice, where he missed the entire 2003/04 season due to injury. In the summer of 2005 he signed with the Ottawa Senators , for which he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2005/06 season . In his rookie year , he played a total of eleven games for the Canadians. The rest of the season, however, he spent with their farm team from the AHL, the Binghamton Senators .
For the 2006/07 season Novák signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets , for which he was six more times in the NHL on the ice. Again, however, he ran mainly in the AHL for their farm team Syracuse Crunch . After he could not prevail in the NHL, the left shooter returned to his Czech homeland after eight years in North America, where he received a contract from his ex-club HC České Budějovice from the Extraliga . For the team, with which he only failed in the playoff semifinals at HC Energie Karlovy Vary , he scored two goals in a total of 57 games and also provided two assists. For the 2008/09 season , the former junior international moved to Dinamo Riga in the newly founded Continental Hockey League , in which he scored 18 points in 53 games. After only a year he left the Latvians again to play for their league rivals HK MWD Balaschicha . For the 2010/11 season he joined its successor club OHK Dynamo , for which he played until 2015 (from 2012 under the name HK Dynamo Moscow ).
In September 2015 he moved within the KHL to HC Slovan Bratislava , but was exchanged for Francis Paré from HK Tractor Chelyabinsk a month later . For Traktor Tscheljabinsk he was used in 35 KHL games. At the beginning of the 2016/17 season he played for HC Dynamo Pardubice before returning to Slovan Bratislava in November 2016. A few weeks later he was fired from HC Slovan and returned to his hometown club in January 2017.
International
For the Czech Republic , Novák took part in the junior division in the U18 World Junior Championship in 1999 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 2002 . In the senior sector, he has so far only been in his country's squad at the 2010 World Cup , where he became world champion with the team straight away.
