Ralph Gilmour Brooks (born July 6, 1898 in Eustis , Frontier County , Nebraska , †  September 9, 1960 in Lincoln , Nebraska) was an American politician and from 1959 to 1960 the 30th governor of the state of Nebraska.

Life

Ralph Brooks graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1925 . He then studied law at the University of Nebraska , where he took his exams in 1926. Brooks never worked in the legal field. Until 1932 he studied education in order to become a teacher. This was followed by a successful career in school service. Brooks has taught at various schools in Nebraska and Iowa . In McCook he was then entrusted as Superintendent of Schools with the supervision of the schools of the city.

Brooks ran unsuccessfully for a seat in Congress in 1942 . In 1958 he was nominated by the Democratic Party as a candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial election. In this he managed to beat the Republican incumbent Victor Emanuel Anderson . Brooks took up his new office on January 8, 1959. During his tenure, he promoted the industry in Nebraska and advocated the expansion of the highway network and improved road safety. Before the end of his term in office, Ralph Brooks died on September 9, 1960. He was married twice and had one daughter.
