Friedrich Heinrich Kern (composer)
Friedrich Heinrich Kern (born March 19, 1980 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German composer, pianist, and glass harmonica player . Classically trained, it is characterized by a stylistic spectrum that ranges from acoustic instrumentation to electronic music. Friedrich Heinrich Kern lives in New York City.
Life
Friedrich Heinrich Kern began as a young student at the University of Music and Performing Arts Mannheim in the subject of piano and received lessons from Rudolf Meister . Shortly afterwards he studied composition at the same time, among others with Ulrich Leyendecker , Ernst Bechert and Sidney Corbett , as well as piano with Rudolf Meister and Ok-Hi Lee. After a year as a scholarship holder at Seoul National University , he was a visiting student at Wesleyan University in Connecticut / USA for one year in 2007 with a Baden-Württemberg scholarship . He received important impulses from studying with Matthias Pintscher in New York . In 2008 he received a MacCracken Research Fellowship. Kern teaches at New York University .
Current projects include the composition Von Taufedern und Sternen for soprano and orchestra, premiered by the Baden-Baden Philharmonic; … Pour une nuit seule , a string quartet, written for the JACK Quartet, and Eins.Zwei for piano and percussion, premiered by the Either / Or Ensemble New York.
At the beginning of March 2018 the album The New Paganini Project , created in collaboration with the German violinist Niklas Liepe and the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern , was released by Sony Classical, for which Kern reworked Niccolò Paganini 's 11th Caprice for violin and orchestra.
