White Pine County is a county in the state of Nevada in the United States . The county seat is Ely . Great lakes are Ruby Lake and Goshute Lake .
history
The county was founded in 1869 and named after the area's white pines. From 1869 to 1887, Hamilton was the county’s administrative seat. He was later moved to Ely because of a fire.
Two places in the county have National Historic Landmark status , Fort Ruby and the Nevada Northern Railway, East Ely Yards . 19 buildings and sites in the county are listed in the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 14, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , the county had 9,181 people. There were 3,282 households and 2,159 families. The population density was less than 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 86.35% White, 4.14% African American, 3.29% Native American, 0.78% Asian, 0.24% Pacific Islander, and 3.09% other races Groups; 2.10% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 10.98% percent of the population.
Of the 3,282 households, 31.20% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 51.80% were married couples living together, 9.30% were single mothers. 34.20% were not families. 29.60% were single households and 11.50% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 3.01.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.20% residents under 18 years of age, 7.60% between 18 and 24 years of age, 29.90% between 25 and 44 years of age, 24.80% between 45 and 64 years of age 13.50% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 128.60 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 138.50 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 36,688 , and the median income for a family is $ 44,136. Males had a median income of $ 36,083 versus $ 26,425 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,309. 11.00% of the population and 10.30% of families are below the poverty line. 11.80% of them were under 18 years of age and 7.60% were 65 years of age or older.
