The Lyon County is a county in the state of Nevada of the United States . The county seat is Yerington .

The county has an area of 5222 square kilometers, of which 59 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Douglas County , Carson City , Storey County , Washoe County , Pershing County , Mineral County, and Mono County, California.
history
Lyon County was one of the nine founding counties in 1861. It was named after Nathaniel Lyon , the first general of the Northern States who was killed in the American Civil War .
One place in the county has the status of a National Historic Landmark , Fort Churchill . Nine buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 14, 2018).

The county had a population of 34,501 as of the 2000 census . There were 13,007 households and 9,443 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 88.62% White, 0.65% African American, 2.45% Native American, 0.61% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, and 4.59% other races Groups; 2.94% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 10.97% percent of the population.
Of the 13,007 households, 33.20% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 58.40% were married couples living together, 9.10% were single mothers. 27.40% were not families. 21.40% were single households and 8.30% had someone living there who was 65 years of age or over. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.02.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.10% residents under 18 years of age, 6.60% between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.30% between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.20% between 45 and 64 years of age 13.70% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 102.50 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 100.00 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 40,699 , and the median income for a family is $ 44,887. Males had a median income of $ 34,034 versus $ 25,914 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,543. 10.40% of the population and 7.20% of families are below the poverty line. 14.10% of these were under 18 years of age and 7.10% were 65 years of age or older.
