The Lyon County Courthouse is the courthouse of the Lyon County and is located in Yerington , Nevada . It is listed as an architectural monument on the National Register of Historic Places .
architecture
The courthouse stands on a plot of approx. 0.56 hectares and is built in the Beaux Arts style . The three-storey building has an area of approx. 27 × 24 m and has 1670 m 2 of office space. It stands on a concrete foundation that supports the brick structure. The window and door frames of the outer facade and the columns are made of terracotta , while the beams of the portico are made of wood. The building's cornice is made of tinplate. The symmetry of the front facade is typical of the type of public buildings in America, which are stylistically based on Roman and Greek architecture . Due to the texture of the facade and its oversized decorative decoration, the relatively small courthouse appears larger.
history
Until 1910, the administrative seat of Lyon County was in Dayton . The economic decline of this place and the destruction of the courthouse there by a fire led to competition from Yerington for the county seat . The expansion of mining in the nearby Mason Valley eventually led to the construction of the new courthouse in Yerington.
The Lyon County Courthouse was built in 1911-12 to designs by the architect Frederic Joseph DeLongchamps . The construction costs amounted to 35,000 US dollars . In 1936 today's west wing was added.
The Lyon County Courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 24, 1983.
